CELEBRATING SAFELY

LA COUNTY BEACHES CLOSED AND MODIFIED HEALTH OFFICER ORDER DETAILS

The 4th of July looks very different this year. We understand it’s a time for celebration and a summer tradition for many. However, with the recent increase in community cases, we urge residents to stay home this 4th of July weekend and help slow the spread of COVID-19. We each can do our part to keep the County safe and ensure our healthcare systems are not overwhelmed, helping us move forward toward recovery.

With COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations on the rise, the County moved swiftly to modify its Health Officer Orders this week.

Outdoor destinations:
To prevent gatherings where the virus can spread, all beaches, beach parking lots, beach bike paths, beach facilities, and beach accessways will be closed from 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 3, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 6. Public fireworks displays have been canceled.

Dining, Drinks & Entertainment:
Also, new Health Officer Orders are in place to comply with new state directives mandating the temporary closure of indoor operations at restaurants (outdoor services are allowed at
restaurants), wineries and tasting rooms, card rooms, zoos, aquariums, and museums.

Fitness:
And if you're hoping to get in a holiday weekend workout, new County directives require all patrons and employees of fitness facilities to wear cloth face coverings masks and gloves while inside the facility.

#MASKUP- IT’S REQUIRED

We realize that not everyone agrees with the face-covering mandate. With the science behind different types of masks and uses evolving rapidly, we do know today that face-coverings prevent droplets from traveling from an infected person and potentially infecting others. And we also know that to continue on our road to recovery, we need to reduce the community spread of COVID-19. As a community, please use face coverings when you are around others, not in your household.

We have the power to change the trajectory of this virus in our communities. We did it once, and we can do it again! We know this isn't where we hoped to be during the summer months, and that wearing masks wasn't the expected new trend, but every person can prevent the spread of COVID-19. Be the example in your community! Show your masks proudly.  Tag a photo on social media #showyourmaskSouthBay

Still, trying to figure out when to wear masks? Here are some examples:

Example #1: You are out for a jog or solo walk, and distancing yourself from others by at least 6ft. You see someone heading toward you and are unable to distance yourself safely. Pull up your mask as you pass until you have 6ft of distance between you and the other person and resume your run/walk!

Example #2: You're ready to walk into a grocery store, grab your mask, and ensure your nose and mouth are covered. Do your shopping and when you leave, sanitize your hands, remove your mask once in your car and sanitize your hands once more.

As always, children under the age of two and individuals with chronic respiratory conditions or other medical conditions that make use of a face-mask hazardous are exempt from this requirement. To read the full Guidance released by the California Department of Public Health, please click here.

PLEASE NOTE: During July 3 through July 5, Public Health will make improvements to the data processing systems which will result in no new data being reported on those days.
