LA COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL NOT REOPEN FOR IN-PERSON LEARNING WHILE ON THE STATES MONITORING LIST

LA County will issue a new Health Officer Order, today, to adhere to the CA Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) directive that schools in 32 counties on the State’s monitoring list, including LA County, cannot resume in-person learning next month.

The state order allows superintendents to submit school district waiver requests to re-open elementary schools for approval by the local health officer only after review of local epidemiological data and intervention strategies, and in consultation with CDPH. School Districts should work with their parents, unions, and community based stakeholders to determine the specific needs of their community. Stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback to their local school districts as part of the decision making process.

In order for schools to re-open their campuses, LA County will have to remain off the monitoring list for 14 consecutive days. At this time, LA County is on the monitoring list because it has a positivity rate of 9 percent and case rate of 307 positive cases per 100,000 residents. LA County's reopening protocols will be modified later today to reflect the state’s directives. Once available, you can locate reopening protocols here

HAIR SALONS, BARBERSHOPS & PERSONAL CARE ESTABLISHMENTS CANNOT OPERATE INDOORS OR OUTDOORS

Effective July 13, Governor Newsom ordered the closure of all hair salons, barbershops and personal care establishments (including nails salons, esthetic salons, & electrology offices) within counties on the State's monitoring list - which regrettably -includes LA County.

Because the State's Business & Professions Code (Section 7317) requires that all barbering, cosmetology and electrology services be performed in a licensed establishment, LA County hair salons, barbershops and personal care establishments must:

  1. Close, and

  2. Not offer any services (including outdoor services).
